Nothing Was The Same (before this album) - The Two Sides of Drake

Track to skip to: Hold On We're Going Home (ft Majid Jordan)

September 25th was the day we were graced with Drake's new album appropriately titled Nothing Was The Same. Appropriately named because, well, nothing was the same before this album dropped. We all know that over the course of his career, we have been shown two kinds of Drake. The first Drake creates tracks such as Started From The Bottom and Tuscan Leather which involve heavy rapping and the use of the word nigger more than is appropriate. The second Drake, and personally my favourite Drake, is the Drake that creates songs such as Furthest Thing and Hold On We're Going Home, full of soul and emotion projected through his singing voice with a soft beat.

The latest installment in the journey of the Toronto born hip-hop artist has lead us to this - a combination of songs that both Drake's would produce (do you think that's another reason why they've got two different album covers? I think yes). The song on the album that sticks out the most for me is the lead single Hold On We're Going Home because it is so closely related to his 2010 hit Find Your Love which I was obsessed with for quite some time. Upon deep study of the album, it is clear that Drake sings and also raps about important issues with beautiful lyrics, sometimes disguised by an ugly rap beat. I thought that the album at first mention would be more soulful Drake but this combination still works for me. Also the album is structured in a neat pattern - Drake number 1, Drake number 2, Drake number 1, Drake number 2 and so on. His dynamic flavour for music is clearly portrayed in this album and that is it's unique selling point and what is creating the massive hype behind it.

It is an album with a lot of zest and meaningful lyrics all in a beautiful combination. Join in the hype for Nothing Was The Same, it's fun.
