A Surprise Winner for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2013

Despite fierce competition from many mainstream artists such as Arctic Monkeys and Disclosure, the 40/1 contender James Blake has bagged the Mercury Prize 2013 with his album Overgrown. The electronic producer and singer-songwriter and also near outsider to win the prize, is a surprise winner for many. The soul singer-songwriter Laura Mvula was bookies favourite with her album Sing To The Moon. The prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize is an annual award which is given to an artist who is a true pioneer of modern music and whose album has originality and captures the eye of journalists and music professionals alike. I will admit I have never heard of James Blake before I found out about his surprise win. However, I now feel compelled to listen to the album that now has a large critical acclaim and has boosted his career in a matter of seconds.

I'm just glad that Arctic Monkeys didn't win to be honest.
