When people told me that Katy Perry was releasing Prism, I was honestly fearing the worst. Her first album One Of The Boys was full to the brim of sassy tunes slating past relationships. Her second album Teenage Dream was full of catchy summery tunes, but lacked any sense of excitement. Her latest release, Prism, which she streamed online herself prior to the release date, is how Katy Perry should be. All of the 14 tracks (17 on the deluxe edition CD) have a different style completely, even with an absurd collaboration with Juicy J, who seems to have just popped up of nowhere and appears on everyone's tracks as the feature. However, a common feature on the songs during the intro, is the 90's vibe. I say that with little critique. It's what we need, a wind back to the good times of music. Her vocals are more strained and raw than in her past projects bringing her more into the current trends which is to be as different as possible (the whole mainstream and hipster debate, we all know it!) Walking On Air is a prime example of time. My personal favourite on the album is Birthday because the tone completely contrasts the lyrics. You only get what the song is really saying once you've stopped dancing around your living room and analyse the lyrics. But, aren't we all sick of the non subtle innuendo driven songs dominating the charts at the moment? The emotion ridden track Ghost is about the disintegration of her short marriage with comedian Russell Brand. "There is just an echo where your heart used to be" displays clearly just how heart broken she was. The artwork itself also displays the gentle yet sassy side of Katy. I'm thoroughly impressed with this album, and Katy, I'm expecting something utterly spectacular for the tour *hint hint*

Katy Perry on Jimmy Fallon, do you agree?:
“I think the difference between this one and this next one is that it’s more vulnerable and raw and stripped down… It’s an evolution. It’s three years later and a bit more grown up, but still having lots of fun.”
