Yesterday, I discovered that my first ever musical obsession, S Club 7, had finally announced their comeback and my 6 year old self is screaming internally. After months and months of speculation, unfinished answers from the band and suspicious twitter accounts popping up out of nowhere, it is finally happening! The 90's pop phenomenon are set to come back as part of BBC's Children In Need annual fundraising night on Friday 14th November.
I remember the day that S Club 7 announced their split back in 2003. My 7 year old self was unable to cope with such traumatic news. After witnessing many other (and let's be honest, less successful) 90's pop bands trying to make a comeback, I often found myself wondering why S Club 7 had never been invited onto the ITV2 show The Big Reunion and tried to reunite themselves. It turned out that the 7 piece had never really wanted the reunion back then.
Between 2003 and several months ago when they first decided that a reunion would be beneficial for both them and any 90's kid such as myself, the band have bided their time by playing to clubs in small scale cities and trying to launch their solo pop career. None of these projects were particularly successful.
Amongst all the speculation, their management did announce that they will be touring at some point next year as a comeback tour. Count me in!
To catch S Club 7's spectactular comeback into the mainstream music world, make sure to tune into BBC 1 on Friday 14th November from 7pm.
