I feel like the summer months are the best time to listen to music. The longer evenings somewhat make you feel music more than in any other season and the fun holidays you embark on will all have a soundtrack to them.
But are you tired of the same summery music droning from your radio everyday? If this is the case, or you are just in need of some new summery tunes to grace your life then here is a short yet essential list of guaranteed summer anthems. No chart music whatsoever, I promise.
1. Lean by BANGLADE$H
I did a blog post on this New Zealand born and breed band about a year ago (which is in fact my most viewed post) and my feelings for them still remain. The lead song from their EP "Lean" is still a firm favourite of mine and the reason why it is the kickstart track to this summery musical journey I'm about to take you on.
2. Can't Get Enough by Yeah Boy

2. Can't Get Enough by Yeah Boy
I found this song by scrolling through Spotify playlists and I was immediately hooked. It's one of those songs that if it was taken down a peg, it would be such a raw and emotional song but because it has a up tempo beat and cheery repetitive backing vocals, it becomes a great summer song. That is no way a bad thing by the way.
3. Modern Love by Coasts
Do not let the artwork for this wonderful single deceive you like it did with me. Another Spotify find (what a wonderful invention Spotify is) I didn't realise that a song with such an intense artwork could be so light and bubbly. But you know what they say, never judge a book by it's cover. Modern Love is a typical summer beach, So Cal hit. The beautiful contrast between the lead singer, Chris Caines, low vocals and the high and fast tempo of the beat works so well.
4. Paris by Bluey Robinson
I first became acquainted with this bundle of talent when he supported young Justin Bieber on his first world tour back in 2011. Most people who went to those shows probably won't remember him but 4 years on, I still follow him and very much enjoy his material. Despite this big break back in 2011, Bluey Robinson is still a severely underrated artist who has a voice of pure gold, nay, platinum. Paris, produced by the incredibly talented Tom Misch, is a more downbeat song than the rest of the songs featured on this playlist but by no means inferior. It is the perfect song for a wind down evening or an evening drive with the windows down if you're old school like me. His older song "Showgirl" might also do the trick for something more uplifting.
His latest installment of wonder is entitled "The Cool EP" and it is absolutely free to download from his website: http://www.blueyrobinson.com/ - I highly recommend the EP because what is not to love about good, honest, free music?!
5. T-Shirt Weather by Circa Waves
If you have listened to Young Chasers, the brilliant debut album by up and coming indie rock band Circa Waves, you will know for well why I have added T-Shirt Weather to this playlist. The album as a whole has a very summery vibe but T-Shirt Weather reminds me the most of sitting on a beach in the sun with a cocktail (is this just me or?!)
