I don't blame you if you started reading this blog post and initially thought "Who are Walk the Moon?" and then read the third track on the track list and you suddenly "Oh yeah them!" It happens a lot unfortunately and it kind of infuriates me when their album is of this quality and offers such musical diversity.

The first time I saw their album cover I thought "Oh god please do not be another band like Magic" - my judgement was completely and utterly wrong, thankfully.

This is in fact the American rock band's second studio album. Their first album was released after they finally decided on the band members in 2010 after forming in 2008. Sadly, their lead single from that album, I Want! I Want! only received airplay in small, alternative radio stations in the US. Fast forward five years and lead single of Talking Is Hard, Shut Up and Dance, is played here, there and everywhere and is part of many people's summer playlists.

This band was once again another one of my "I'm in desperate need of a new band to be fixated with" adventures on Spotify and Walk the Moon were picked as my next victims. Their rock-come-pop-come-indietronica sound is quirky and brings a very much needed burst of a life to the pretty dull chart music that gets thrown out there nowadays. The contrast between Shut Up and Dance and the track that immediately follows Up 2 U is truly incredible and not to mention, genius!

Portugal is every genre of music that I enjoy most (indie, pop and rock) combined together with an added dash of synthesising. The song is based upon a love affair in Portugal which has managed to stay in one of the band member's lives through thick and thin (and also several other lovers). Avalanche, a second favourite of mine, is very Two Door Cinema Club reminiscent which is extremely pleasant.

In summary, if you picked up this album excited thinking it would sound like Magic, you will be disappointed. If you picked up this album for a wonderous infusion of several genres, this may just become your favourite album of 2015. It sure has become one of mine!

Walk The Moon play Glasgow, Manchester and London in November and it will be a gig not to be missed. Tickets can be found here: http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/Walk-The-Moon-tickets/artist/753460
