Performing on Sunday 18th October

With support from Catholic Action and The Magic Gang

****

Swim Deep have opened up for bands such as the long departed from the musical radar Two Door Cinema Club at venues as large scale as the 02 Arena. Yet somehow, the Birmingham four-piece feel more at home in smaller venues, like the 800 capacity J1 at the Cambridge Junction, which for their performance, sadly was only half full.

However, the crowd were loud and turbulent, with thanks to first support act Catholic Action kick-starting the indie-fuelled evening. A wondrous mixture of sweet pop lyrics and arty rock guitars, they did a very impressive job of meeting and greeting the crowd as they traipsed in.

Brighton based quartet The Magic Gang’s set was like an instant throwback to the 90's for their sound is drenched in geek rock tangled with alternative rock and indie pop all reminiscent of that wonderful era of music. A highly prolific band who have so much more to reveal to the world.

Swim Deep’s set had the perfect balance of songs from their incredible debut “Where the Heaven Are We” and newest release “Mothers” “Francisco” a hugely popular song from their first album sure was a crowd pleaser. “To My Brother” from Mothers, is one of the few songs similar to their iconic debut which most of the crowd knew. The difference in crowd reaction to the songs off their debut compared to their new release shows that it is pretty evident which album is fan’s favourite.
