New Music Friday - 20th May 2016
A very good Friday to you all!I may have found a way to minimise hiatus on my blog (maybe!) After a very un-productive week at work to say the least, I have had a lot of time to think about my blog and how I want it to be. I promised that I'd do a Sounds of every month of the year back in January, a promise which I have since broken (sorry!) But I have thought of a new feature which may just work...
Every Friday, I will try to do a "New Music Friday" - this can be anything from full album reviews to several short reviews on a number of artists from a variety of genres, it purely depends on what musical wonders are released that particular Friday that I want to write about and share with you all (There are absolutely no prizes for guessing what album is going to be featured in next week's New Music Friday...)
I also vow to bring back Track of the Day on my Twitter from my new Soundcloud discoveries. My Soundcloud can be found here so head over there to listen to what little beauties I have added so far this year.
Anyways, let's get on with the show! Here is the first ever (and hopefully not the last) New Music Friday
1. Twice by Catfish and the Bottlemen
Another piece of the puzzle which is slowly piecing together some of Catfish's finest, most emotional and most intriguing work yet. The sophomore album, which is out next Friday, appears to have a variety of sounds on it with a different inspiration behind them all, both in terms of sound and subject matter. The latest giveaway, Twice, is a gritty Strokes influenced song packed with plenty of punch and a guitar solo that makes every limb in your body want to sway (or mosh, whichever you prefer really!)
2. Things Will Matter by Lonely The Brave
Local Cambridge based rock band Lonely The Brave today released their second album and it is a treasure to behold. Still very much on the down low in the UK music scene, this album is going to prove to everyone just what they are made of. A bunch of incredible lyrics and guitars - the perfect recipe for a beautiful alt rock album. Personal favourite? Already released What If You Fall In is a big contender for complete rock chart domination.
3. Hello Hello by Lewis Watson
The anticipation for Lewis Watson's second album is growing more and more as the year plods on. New and wonderful sounds are flying in front of us without even a date nor a title for the album. The latest offering, Hello Hello, is a blissful acoustic track which shows the Lewis Watson we fell in love with 3 years ago at the release of his first ever 4 track EP.
4. Sofa by The Recreation
One cold night in March, a sudden wave of popularity washed over young Manchester based band The Recreation as a hoard of Twitter users started a Twitter based trend "From the Rec" Now featured on the cover of their new single Sofa, a lively and energetic track, demonstrates just why the hype that is slowly and gradually building around this band needs to be believed and passed around past the internet world.
All of the tracks featured in this post are on my Spotify playlist entitled "Hayley Whispers" plus many more of my favourite songs and golden oldies! If you have any songs to request for future New Music Friday features or maybe you're part of a band or a new artist and want to get your music out there, I am open to all music recommendations, so tweet me @hayleywhispers to send them directly to me.
Stay jazzy folks,
Hayley
