#NEWMUSICFRIDAY: Red Hot Chili Peppers and Two Door Cinema Club + Best of 2016...so far Playlist

#NEWMUSICFRIDAY

Friday 17 June 2016

Listen to all of the tracks featured in today's New Music Friday on Spotify:

1. The Getaway by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers are not a band you'd imagine to be joining in on the latest crazes. That is why it was somewhat refreshing to see them (maybe too much of them) on Carpool Karaoke, a popular segment of James Corden's US talk show, The Late Late Show with James Corden this week. A show that has featured such celebrities as Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson and Iggy Azalea, artists who sit firmly in today's popular music culture, laden with flashy, digital PR pulling points to draw people into their web like a deviant spider and eventually buy their mostly automated albums.

However, the latest instalment of the Chili Peppers' discography is an album that didn't need a flashy, commercialised PR stunt such as joining in the newest internet sensation to promote it.

Almost 5 years has passed since their last studio album, but those 5 years have been spent crafting an album that ventures not too far away from their conventions but has elements of experiment and reminds the world exactly why the Red Hot Chili Peppers will always remain victorious. First single "Dark Necessities" has an underlying, almost eery piano opener which moves swiftly into a strong bassline. Middle track of the album "Go Robot" is where the art comes in. With the swagger of a late 70's/early 80's Prince tune but with the personalisation of a rock tune, it is experimental, fun and funky.

The Chili Peppers' set at this year's Reading and Leeds Festival will sure be rememberable with some of these tracks adding to the already colossal list of hits from the rock front runners.

2. Are We Ready? (Wreck) by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club have been on a little rollercoaster since their arrival onto the music scene in 2010. Their debut "Tourist History" shot them up to the top, with their catchy, punchy and "gig-atmospheric" tracks, settling their place in the incredibly niche indie world, a world that barely existed back then, a world that, back then, wasn't used as a way to make teenagers who follow trends look not trendy. Two Door Cinema Club are somewhat like the Busted of this indie world, in the sense that, for many people, they were the first band that any music fans who claims to have an indie music heritage would have started off with, slowly progressing their musical acquirements from there.

After their impressive gig at The 02 Arena in December 2013 alongside Swim Deep and Crystal Fighters, Two Door Cinema Club took a hiatus, muting themselves from the little world they have created for themselves. Fast forward to last Tuesday, their silence was broken, and, like Busted or Jesus, they rose again.

"Are We Ready?" despite lacking the punch provided by guitars and is replaced with an electronic sound, is a strong comeback single and has bought back the buzz for them. Now to just sit and patiently wait for them to announce tour dates to see the spectacular show reborn.

Their new album GAMESHOW is out 14 October

"The Best of 2016...so far" Playlist
A couple of days ago, a friend of mine asked me the simple question "What's been your favourite song of 2016 so far?" This sparked upon an idea. Since it was 15 June, exactly halfway through June, which is halfway through the year, I decided to create an entire playlist of every song that I have loved between January 1st and now. However, this playlist is unlike any other as I have asked the wonderful people of Twitter to help me create it, making it an entire mix of songs from a variety of genres from a variety of people from all over the world.

So if you have a song that you have loved between January and June, a song that has bought you a new friend this year, a song that reminds you of the highlight of your year so far, you have until 15 July to submit your songs to me via Twitter (@hayleywhispers) All songs will be added and it is available for you all to listen to on Spotify
