#NEWMUSICFRIDAY: Spring King, Eden, The Stone Roses and more!

#NEWMUSICFRIDAY

Friday 10 June 2016

Listen to all of the tracks featured in today's New Music Friday on Spotify:

1. Tell Me If You Like To by Spring King

Indie newcomers Spring King released their debut album "Tell Me If You Like To" today and it is everything we could have hoped for (due to our knowledge of the strength of their single releases) The Mancuian post-punk-come-garage-band's work is a chaotic yet beautiful noise, the tracks "Rectifier" and "The Summer" portraying their sparky persona. But do not fear those who are not partial to a ratchet, track "Heaven" is a lot more sedate and unruffled by the sound that sprung Spring King into action. An exciting and excitable young band.

2. sex by Eden

With an opening as smooth as an 80's Michael Jackson tune, Irish swooner Eden has released "sex" - a slightly more alternative offering compared to the slow piano ballads that generated his success. Upbeat and jazzy, sex has a strong pop undertone muddled amongst over-romantic lyrics, maybe the doing of Scooter Braun, who has recently taken him under his multi-millionaire, platinum-selling-artist filled wing which carries the likes of Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. Let's see if Scooter keeps Eden's spark, charm and passion in his simplistic and wondrous music or revolutionises him into another one of his pop exhibits. Only time will tell.

3. Beautiful Thing by The Stone Roses

After comeback single "All For One" failed to captivate adoring fans who have paid through the tooth to see them on their comeback gigs at the Ethiad this month, a new release announced just hours before left these fans feeling anxious. 12 midnight Friday morning rolled around, the first note kicked in, and the fans' previous feelings of anxiety faded away. "Beautiful Thing" is a 7 minute masterpiece, replicating the authentic sound of an original Stone Roses song, something fans who have been here since the beginning and fans who have come along for the ride can both appreciate. It really is a beautiful thing!

4. Thick as Thieves by Temper Trap

The Temper Trap, a band most famous for their 2009 hit Sweet Disposition, a romanticised pop song with lyrics that nobody really understood, have been reborn. At this end of the band's epiphany, we have been bestowed with "Thick as Thieves" an exceptional rock album, in which all of the lyrics are understandable and by God, are they beautiful?! "Lost" is a powerful song with a beautiful sway, a punchy opening and astounding lyrics - a delight. None of the new album displays the whiney, elongated sound that Sweet Disposition has, it is a lot more rock orientated and dominating. Maybe "Thick as Thieves" is reference to how they feel creating such a surprising and charming rebirth album.
