Viola Beach - Their Album And Their Legacy

On 25th January 2016, I posted a Sounds of January blog post, a trend that never powered through on this blog based upon my slight commitment issues and my dire need to change things up as much as humanely possible. Regardless of whether or not the trend stayed, it is a post that will always stand out for me. One of the last bands mentioned on this piece, a band who has an element or similarity with all of the other bands mentioned in the post, was Viola Beach, a young, driven and passionate indie pop band whose lives were sadly taken by a tragic car accident just two weeks after the blog post was published.

It has been almost 6 months since the charismatic Warrington based band along with their manager Craig Tarry passed away and the music world is still trying to come to terms with the loss. Coldplay's heartwarming and selfless tribute to them at Glastonbury Festival shows the stamp they created on the industry, in the very short time they were in it. The tribute, which saw Viola Beach hypothetically perform their hit single "Boys That Sing" through the big screens on the Pyramid Stage during Coldplay's headline slot, whilst Chris Martin and the rest of the world watching both from the muddy fields of Glastonbury and at home on their plasma TV's or laptops, watched in awe at a performance which could have easily happened in 5-10 years time, but in real life, with the real Viola Beach on the stage using their talent for playing live to blow everyone away.

Tomorrow, their first and only album will be released. An album, that although it was almost demanded by fans to be released, is a celebration of the band and the incredible potential they held. However, it is also an album that makes you feel a deep sadness that this young and prosperous band will never know the outcome of their debut album. The reaction it would have, the response from bedroom bloggers and reviewers at top music publications alike, whether it would lead to a strong demand for new material as quickly as possible from eager fans, because this is the end, before it even truly begun.

It is a not a debut album, but more a beautiful tribute. A collection of unreleased songs that show the potential of a band who's personalities were almost as charming and as wonderful as their music. An album that channels their dying passion for music.

Their album entitled "Viola Beach" will be available from midnight tonight.
