Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Live At 02 Academy Brixton - Tuesday 6 September

"Another Tuesday night in London, fucking hell" exclaimed Noel Gallagher to a 5,000 strong crowd that had fought off the unseasonably humid weather to dance and sing their hearts out to his solo material and many Oasis classics.

Last night's sensational, euphoria fuelled performance had in fact been the first time that Oasis, Noel and/or his High Flying Birds had ever played 02 Academy Brixton because he has always been "too big to play here" (his words not mine) but that did not dim the atmosphere any lower than feeling like you were seeing him in anything smaller than a stadium. A small, low-key conclusion to a two year long world tour, that has seen Noel and his High Flying Birds fly to all four corners of the globe, covering venues of all shapes and sizes.

An element of the night that I found truly remarkable (I think this maybe steams from spending most of my teenage years at typical teen gigs and surrounding myself in Justin Bieber's ora being offended by most of his, in hindsight, not-so-wrong doings) was that due to the maturity and the average age of the crowd being 20+, Noel was able to take time out between songs to point out and comment on the crowd's chants, stick his middle finger at someone for no said reason and even point out a few famous faces hidden away in the circle without anyone get offended, merely having the crowd just laugh it off as another Noel moment!

Amidst the dreamy saxophone solos and excellent accompaniments from Noel's incredibly High Flying Birds throughout the 90 minute set, came accompaniments of a different kind. That kind being none other than Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who joined Noel for true Oasis classic, Champagne Supernova. And just when you thought that things could not get any bigger, out comes Paul Weller for a slick rendition of Town Called Malice for an encore like no other.

This was not just another Tuesday night in London.
