This was the ultimate kickstart to my summer.

This is now my third year of attending the annual Capital FM radio run mini festival and it has never disappointed. Taking place in Wembley, it automatically gives the day an electric atmosphere as 80,000 people enjoy the mainstream artists dominating the stage. This year it took place on the longest (and hottest) day of the year, so the heat surely was scorching.

Calvin Harris and his incredible DJ set started the proceedings. Performing right in the heart of the scorching mid 20 degree celsius heat, he got the crowd sweating and energetic. The Scottish DJ is almost certain to energise any crowd so having him as the opening act was a very wise choice by the organisers.

What overwhelmed me maybe a little bit more than the atmosphere was the vast intensity of 5 Seconds of Summer fans who attended the concert. A year ago, the Australian band were barely known and now, with the aid of One Direction and YouTube, their fame has rocketed. Their set was promising, however, it only featured three songs, one of which was a cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream". Despite having a new album being released in the UK from next Monday, it was a shame that we didn't get to see or hear any of the songs featured on the album in their set.

The Breakers section of the concert gives new and upcoming artists a chance to perform at the iconic stadium with their breakthrough single. American singer and Justin Bieber wannabe Austin Mahone was up first performing his oh so catchy song "Mmm Yeah" which, lucky for us, was not accompanied by Pitbull. X Factor 2012 runner up Ella Henderson performed her song "Ghost" in a stunning manner. New boy band on the block and the newest addition to Scooter Braun's growing list of success stories Rixton sung the rather overplayed number "Me and My Broken Heart" But the true breakthrough artist and the one that stole the show the most was that of Australian R'n'B rap artist Iggy Azalea. Singing her song "Fancy" she owned the stage and brought a immense hype to the audience. True performer!

However, the woman we all waited to see what she had up her sleeve (figure of speech because she is known for wearing minimal clothing) was Miley Cyrus. She delivered with the promise of putting on a show. Opening her set with "Bangerz" her younger sister Noah accompanied her on stage as a backing dancer. And, as you can expect, her props on stage were quite extraordinary. The second headliner Pharrell set the bar and delivered a truly remarkable, energetic and fun set.

As the sun finally began to set over the stadium, the closing act still managed to keep the energy of the crowd up. French DJ David Guetta was, quite surprisingly, outstanding! The pyrotechnics and the colourful fireworks added to the dance beats booming from his podium.

The Summertime Ball is the perfect day out for a variety of ages due to the large quantity and variety of acts. Well worth giving it a go next year.
