Performing on Wednesday 11 November
With support from The London Souls
*****
In countless interviews, lead singer of brit rock masterpiece Catfish and the Bottlemen, Van McCann, re-illiterates that it has never been about the awards or the record sales, it has been about playing live. Tonight played tribute to this ethos.
With little room for small talk during their concise set, Catfish and the Bottlemen truly are a no nonsense band who have one soul passion - music. It is alarming how rare that is nowadays.
Their support act The London Souls were barely memorable by the time Catfish made a boisterous entrance to the compact venue with Rango, getting the crowd exhilarated, pumped and almost as sweaty as Van for the gig, which featured every single song from The Balcony, their debut album.
In a gig where the music is as loud and energetic as Catfish's, there is nothing more powerful than when a singer leans back from their microphone and allows the crowd to sing the lyrics to them. The Cambridge crowd managed to create a Homesick outro - Van agiley sung the chorus whilst the crowd became the memorising and overpowering echo.
A night with flailing arms and over exclaimed lyrics, just how gigs were intended to be.
