Amidst the aftermath of the brutal and heartbreaking terrorist attacks in Paris the previous Friday, intimate venues such as the Cambridge Corn Exchange are at the risk of phasing out. There is a fear within all concert goers that this kind of thing could have happened to anyone anywhere. However, last night, this fear was well concealed and replaced with a rowdy frontier from the entire congregation. The Cambridge Corn Exchange will always stand victorious.

Sweat, energy and a lot of profanity is what emanated from Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis during an hour and a half which proved why Foals are known as one of the best live bands. The majority of Foals' almighty setlist was songs from the first three albums rather than the triumphant new release What Went Down. Inhaler is an iconic track, however live, it proves to be a chaotic mess what with the loud bassline and screaming lyrics that create the chorus. It is hard to congratulate one song as an overall crowd pleaser as the crowd were already boisterous before the lights had even dimmed.

Yannis' infamous stage dive was saved for the curtain call Two Steps Twice in which he jumped from the upper balcony's stair railings. The only crowd surfing attempt that went smoothly for the previous two were destroyed by the clutches of the vulturous crowd. Once he makes a safe(ish) return to the stage, he slays, defies and conquers the song and then estatically exits stage right, his face smothered in gratitude that Cambridge did in fact "make the place shake" as per his request.

If Foals ever return to the Corn Exchange, we can expect a show just as crazy, sweaty and utterly bonkers. And hopefully Miami will make the setlist.

Stay jazzy folks,

Hayley
